Influence of climatic variables on the development of the fruits of Theobroma cacao L. in Jibacoa
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study was carried out in a population of hybrid of Theobroma cacao L. developed in areas of the Unit of Science and Technique of Base of Jibacoa, in Manicaragua municipality, Villa Clara province, Cuba, from September of the 2010 until August of the 2012, with the objective of evaluating the influence of the temperatures and precipitations on the development of the fruits of Theobroma cacao L. in the area of Jibacoa in the center of Cuba. Were measured the longitude, diameter, number of seeds, weight of humid cocoa for ears and dry weight of seed. The data were processed by the statistical program InfoStat version 1.0 and a test of Duncan was applied to compare the crop of cold and spring, with a degree of trust of 95 %. Was measured and valued the effect of the precipitations and the temperatures on the measured indexes. The best result was obtained in the crop of cold, where the temperatures and precipitations influenced in a positive way on the development of the fruits of Theobroma cacao L., obtaining superiors values to those of spring in all the measured indexes and inside the established standards. The evaluated indexes, mainly the weight of the dry seeds, were affected by the influence of scarce rains and low temperatures in the period of development of the fruits, reaching results below the established norms.
