Respuesta productiva de la asociación café-ñame en siete zonas cafetaleras del municipio de Tercer Frente

Abstract
The work was carried out during September 2015 - April 2016 months in 7 of the coffee areas (La Pimienta, La Tabla, La Puya, Palenque, San Lorenzo, La Maestra and Arroyón) of Tercer Frente municipality, Santiago de Cuba province. Specifically with 120 of coffee producing of Coffea arabica species were worked corresponding to the Agro-Forest Enterprise Tercer Frente. These producers are linked to the project 1067 directed of the UCTB Tercer Frente and it is related with the rescue of the coffee production of superior quality. The activity was carried out with the objective of evaluating the productions yam associated to the coffee using mainly like reference the obtained results of the project “Technology for the sustainable production of yam seeds and its management in a coffee agro ecosystem”. A total of 340,2 ha of coffee in production were selected. An inventory of the production volume that is obtained in the associated cultivation of the yam (Dioscorea alata) was carried out. For the summary of the information was worked in coordination with the extensionists corresponding to each area. The biggest yield in the yam production was obtained in the area of Palenque with 0.5 t/ha, while the rest areas showed a potential for increase the yields in approximately 0.5 t/ha without originate excess of shading neither erosive risk to the coffee plantations.
