Selection of hybrid FI cuban of coffee (Coffea arabica L.)

Abstract
Between 1989 and the 2004, the first hybrid Cubans of coffee were obtained and evaluated, in the Unit of Science and Technique of Base (UCTB) Estación Agroforestal Jibacoa, Villa Clara province, with the objective of selecting new cultivars of coffee as contribution to the increment of the sustainability and the protection of the natural resources in the coffee-culture. A selection outline was chosen based in the creation of Hybrid F1 among the traditional varieties Red Caturra and Villalobos and wild individuals gathered in the center of origin of the coffee (Ethiopia). To evaluate the agronomic behavior of the hybrid ones behaved a rehearsal of established field in a completely randomized blocks design where cultivating Caturra Red was like witness. It was measured: the yield and their main components, the behavior before plagues and diseases, as well as the relationship benefits cost. The womb of data was processed through variance analysis. The hybrid 80 and 434 overcame and they equaled the witness in the evaluated selection describers. They are highly productive and moderately resistant to nematodes belonging to the gender Meloidogyne mayaguensi, tolerant to the leaf miner and they show resistance and / or susceptibility to the coffee rust, producing the same beverage type that the commercial variety Red Caturra. The hybrid one 80, it emerged like a very attractive option from the economic point of view with an introduction cost /ha until the ninth year of having planted of 34 356 CUP/ha, while the benefit ascended 93 340 CUP.
