Revaluation of gender equity and its impact on coffee farms in Tercer Frente and Granma
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study addressed the issue of underrepresentation and poor empowerment of women in the agricultural sector, specifically in coffee plantations in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Granma. The objective was to revalue gender equity and evaluate its impact on coffee activity, promoting female inclusion and development in rural communities. Four main tasks were implemented: incorporation of women in Coffee Graft Production Centers (CPI), preparation of School Structures, evaluation of female participation in agricultural transformation and revaluation of their work through surveys and impact analysis. The results showed a significant increase in female participation, exceeding the initial goals in the CPI and School Structures. Greater awareness of gender equity was highlighted, with 33% of women in technical and managerial roles. However, gaps persist in remuneration and access to usufructs, where only 11-12% of women are usufructuaries. The surveys revealed that, although equal rights are perceived, factors such as low wages and lack of care support limit female incorporation. It was concluded that strengthening gender equality in agriculture contributed to female empowerment, improving social indicators and the perception of the role of women in the sector. However, additional policies are required to close wage gaps and promote greater female participation in key positions.
