Abstract
The work was carried out at the Baracoa Agro forestry Experimental Station, Guantanamo province, in the period 1978-2017 with the objective of evaluating the genotypes and exposing some results of the program of genetic improvement of cocoa in Cuba. With support based on the actions carried out in the 6 research projects, which provided funding for 15 priority activities, such as the creation and strengthening of capacities in human and material resources (creation of the germplasm bank, experimental plots and gardens producing seeds), expeditions of collections of genotypes and training. As a result of the program, the only germplasm bank was created, consisting of 282 accessions, of which 88 were introduced from different geographical regions (11 from North America, 18 from Central America, 41 from South America, 17 from the Caribbean, and 1 from Africa) and 194 prospected Cuba in the provinces of Guantánamo (163), Santiago de Cuba (24) and (7) in Mayabeque, the guarantee of sexual and asexual seeds of superior genotypes that constitute the official list of varieties of the country, the characterization of 282 with the use of fruit descriptors (242 genotypes), seeds (242 genotypes), compatibility (157 genotypes), resistance to Phytophthora palmivora (173 genotypes), and physic-chemical (198 genotypes).
