Arboreal inventory and manage in established plantations of robust under low pruning system or back cutting Inventario arbóreo y manejo en plantaciones establecidas de robusta bajo sistema de poda baja o recepa Díaz-Hernández, Wilfredo Grave de Peralta-Hechavarría, Genovevo Molina-Arias, Guillermo Reyes-Galafé, Regulo Ramos-Hernández, Rogelio Coffea canephora management of plantations arboreal species esqueleteado yield Coffea canephora manejo de plantaciones especies arbóreas esqueleteado rendimiento The project was developed in the solid mountainous Sierra Maestra and Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa between 1996-2003 years and later was generalized in different coffee municipalities of the oriental and central area from country, to study the arboreal management and low behavior the association with Coffea canephora. Three experimental places were located to facilitate the management and to guarantee the contribution of the producer’s knowledge on the species during study: La Mandarina, Tercer Frente, Santiago de Cuba province; La Zarza, Sagua de Tánamo and La Güira, Mayarí both of Holguín province. Was combined the association of the arboreal species managing the C. canephora applying a lower pruning system or back cutting, with the buds selection, from three to seven, leaving a witness with reparation pruning. Different technologies were applied for the shade manage: total pruning of the spare and undesirable species for the coffees, rising of the timber branches above the coffees top, stout trees of shade skeletonization, alone in the case of the species Samanea saman, (carob tree), to reach more than 1.0 t x ha of coffee gold, without detriment for the quality of the final product and without affectation of the means. The yields increase in sense of the biggest density or quantity of offsprings for plant, between 0.73 and 1.83 t x ha-1. There were not incidences of pests and diseases and the ecological balance is restored. El proyecto se desarrolló en los macizos montañosos Sierra Maestra y Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa entre 1996-2003, y posteriormente se generalizó en diferentes municipios cafeteros del oriente y centro del país para estudiar el manejo arbóreo y comportamiento en asociación con Coffea canephora. Se ubicaron tres sitios experimentales para facilitar el manejo y garantizar el aporte del conocimiento de los productores sobre las especies bajo estudio en La Mandarina, Tercer Frente, provincia de Santiago de Cuba; La Zarza, municipio de Sagua de Tánamo, y La Güira, municipio de Mayarí, ambos en la provincia de Holguín. Se combinó la asociación de las especies arbóreas con el manejo de C. canephora aplicando un sistema de poda baja o recepa, con la selección de brotes, desde tres hasta siete, dejando un testigo con poda de saneamiento. Se aplicaron diferentes tecnologías para el manejo de la sombra: tala total de las especies sobrantes e «indeseables» para los cafetos, levantamiento de las ramas maderables por encima de la copa de los cafetos, «esqueleteado» de los árboles corpulentos de sombra, Samanea saman (algarrobo), para alcanzar más de 1,0 t x ha de café oro, sin detrimento para la calidad del producto final y sin afectación del medio. Los rendimientos aumentan en sentido de la mayor densidad o cantidad de vástagos por planta, situándose entre 0,73 y 1,83 t x ha–1. No hubo incidencias de plagas y enfermedades, y se restaura el equilibrio ecológico.
