Growth and yield of Coffea canephora managed with different offsprings numbers in the solid mountainous Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa Crecimiento y rendimiento de Coffea canephora manejado con diferentes números de vástagos en el macizo montañoso Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa Ramos-Hernández, Rogelio Viñals-Núñez, Rolando Rodríguez-Patterson, Francisco coffees offsprings yield prunes cafetos vástagos rendimiento poda To know the effect that causes the number of offsprings on some morphological variable and the yield in established plantations of Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner, an experiment was developed in the period 2005-2009 in areas of the Alcarraza, Sagua of Tánamo municipality, Holguín province, with coffees of inferior yields at 0,2 t x ha–1, planted at 3.5 m x 3.5 m distance in the 1997 year, on a Brown gleyed soil without carbonates. The total pruning to the coffees was carried out and the treatments were conformed to 4; 5; 6 and 7 offsprings for trunk. Until the 24 months of having executed the pruning, they were not significant differences for the diameter of the cup. The height and the diameter of the shaft were shown inversely proportional to each other; the first one was increased at the same time with the biggest number of offsprings that decreased the second. The yield was increased until near values to the 2,0 t coffee berry x ha–1 (accumulated in the first 2 harvests) in all the treatments. Although they were not significant differences among these, in the yield the tendency was observed to its increase with the increment of the number of offsprings. When it becomes rehabilitated a plantation of Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner in density of 816 plants x ha–1, the biggest economic effect it is obtained ($14 477,44 x ha–1) when 6 offsprings are selected by each trunk. Para conocer el efecto que provoca el número de vástagos sobre algunas variables morfológicas y el rendimiento en plantaciones establecidas de Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner se desarrolló un experimento en el período 2005-2009 en áreas de la Alcarraza, municipio de Sagua de Tánamo, provincia de Holguín, con cafetos de rendimientos inferiores a 0,2 t x ha–1, plantados a una distancia de 3,5 m x 3,5 m en 1997, sobre un suelo pardo gleyzoso sin carbonatos. Se realizó la poda total a los cafetos y se conformaron los tratamientos con cuatro, cinco, seis y siete vástagos por tronco. Hasta los veinticuatro meses de ejecutada la poda no se encontraron diferencias significativas para el diámetro de la copa. La altura y el diámetro del tallo se mostraron inversamente proporcionales entre sí; la primera se incrementó con el mayor número de vástagos a la vez que se redujo la segunda. El rendimiento se incrementó hasta valores cercanos a las 2,0 t café oro x ha–1 (acumulado en las dos primeras cosechas) en todos los tratamientos. Aunque no se encontraron diferencias significativas entre estos, en el rendimiento se observó la tendencia a su aumento con el incremento del número de vástagos.
