Behavior of the growth de Coffea canephora Pierre ex Frohener under low pruning system or back cutting Comportamiento de nuevas plantaciones de Coffea canephora bajo diferentes tipos de sombra Vázquez-López , Eliosmar Cumbá-Hechavarría, Bárbara Díaz-Hernández, Wilfredo shade arboreal species Coffea canepho morphology production sombra especies arbóreas Coffea canephora morfología, producción The investigation was developed in the UBPC 14 of June located in the area of the Mandarin belonging to the municipality Tercer Frente, Provincia Santiago of Cuba, during the period 1997 at the 2002. The Coffea canephora ex Pierre Froehner was established at a distance of plantation of 3 m x 2 m under different shade types, in a Brown ochre soil without carbonates and to height of 150 msnm. A design of blocks was used at random with three replicates, the treatments consisted in: artificial shade with palm leaves, Leucaena shade, florid pine nut shade managed by the pinareño system and florid pine nut shade managed with rising of the glass. They Were carried out morphologic evaluations to the coffees, to the 12 and 24 months of having planted. It was evaluated: height of the plant, diameter of the shaft, diameter of the glass and number of branches plagiotropics and productively the agricultural yield was evaluated in t x ha-1 of green coffee during the first two crops. The cultural attentions were executed chord with the Technical Instructive of the coffee and cocoa. It concluded that the shade type didn’t determine the morphologic behavior neither productive and yields superior means were evidenced 1 t x ha-1 in the second crop. La investigación se desarrolló en la UBPC 14 de Junio, ubicada en la zona de La Mandarina, perteneciente al municipio de Tercer Frente, provincia de Santiago de Cuba, durante el período 1997-2002. Se estableció el Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner  a una distancia de plantación de 3 m x 2 m bajo diferentes tipos de sombra, en un suelo Pardo ócrico sin carbonatos y a altura de 150 msnm. Se empleó un diseño de bloques al azar con tres réplicas. Los tratamientos consistieron en sombra artificial con hojas de palma (penca de guano), sombra de Leucaena, sombra de piñón florido manejado por el sistema pinareño y sombra de piñón florido manejado con levantamiento de la copa. Se realizaron evaluaciones morfológicas a los cafetos, a los 12 y 24 meses de plantados. Se evaluó altura de la planta, diámetro del tallo, diámetro de la copa y número de ramas plagiotrópicas, y productivamente se evaluó el rendimiento agrícola en t x ha-1 de café oro durante las dos primeras cosechas. Las atenciones culturales se ejecutaron acorde con el Instructivo Técnico del café y cacao. Se concluyó que el tipo de sombra no determinó el comportamiento morfológico ni productivo, y se evidenciaron rendimientos medios superiores a 1 t x ha-1 en la segunda cosecha.
